Privacy policy
UpDog is an iOS app for tracking a puppy's day. This page explains what the app stores, what leaves your phone, and who else can see it.
The short version: UpDog works on your phone. You do not need an account, an email address, or an internet connection to use it. Nothing is sold. There are no ads and no tracking. The app has no access to your photos, camera, location, or contacts, and never asks for it.
The app works on your device first
Everything you log is written to a database on your phone and saved straight away. The network is never in the way. If you never sign in and never connect, the app still works and everything you have logged stays on the device.
If you are connected, the app syncs in the background so your data survives losing your phone and can be shared with the other people in your household.
Accounts
When you first open UpDog you are signed in anonymously. The app creates an account identifier for you. No email address, name, or password is required to use UpDog.
You can choose to add an email address so you can get your data back on a new phone. If you do:
- we send a one-time code to that address to sign you in
- there is no password to choose or remember
- the address is stored by our authentication provider, Supabase, and is used only to sign you in
You can delete your account from inside the app. You do not have to email anyone or wait for us. Deleting your account deletes the synced data described below.
What is stored when you sync
This applies only if you have synced. It is stored in a Postgres database run by Supabase.

Activity types are a fixed list: pee, poop, accident, food, water, sleep start, sleep end, outside, crate start, and crate end.
The note on an activity is free text that you type, and it is stored exactly as you wrote it. It is worth knowing that, so you can decide what to put in it.
Every table is protected by row-level security in the database, so one household cannot read another household's rows.
What UpDog does not collect
- No photos, and no camera. The app ships no camera or photo library permission at all, so it cannot reach your photos even if you wanted it to.
- No location.
- No contacts.
- No advertising identifiers, ad networks, or cross-app tracking. The app does not show the App Tracking Transparency prompt because it has nothing to track.
- No push notification tokens. Reminders are local notifications scheduled on your phone. The app never registers for remote push notifications.
Who else receives data
Three companies. That is the entire list.
Supabase
Database and sign-in. Supabase stores the synced data in the table above, including your email address if you added one. Supabase privacy policy.
PostHog
Product analytics, so we can see which parts of the app get used. PostHog receives the name of an event and your account identifier, and nothing else. The events are: app opened, onboarding started, puppy created, activity logged, activity edited, activity deleted, reminder created, reminder deleted, household invite started, and household invite completed.
No puppy names, no notes, and no contents of any activity are sent to PostHog. Only the fact that an event of that type happened. PostHog privacy policy.
Sentry
Crash and error reporting, so we find out when the app breaks. When something goes wrong, Sentry receives a stack trace and information about the device and operating system version. Sentry privacy policy.
Where data is stored
Our database is hosted by Supabase in the United States. PostHog and Sentry process the analytics events and crash reports described above on their own infrastructure. If you are outside the United States, using UpDog means your data is transferred there.
How long it is kept
Synced data is kept until you delete it. Deleting an activity, a pet, or your whole account in the app removes it. Analytics events and crash reports are kept by PostHog and Sentry under their own retention periods.
Your choices
- Use UpDog without an account and without an email address. That is the default.
- Delete your account, and the data synced with it, in the app.
- Delete individual activities, pets, and reminders in the app.
- Ask for a copy of what is stored against your account, or ask us to delete it, by emailing support@tryupdog.app. If you have not added an email address we may have no way to tell which account is yours, in which case deleting it in the app is how to do it.
Children
UpDog is not directed at children and does not ask anyone's age. The app collects no information about a person beyond an optional display name and an optional email address.
Selling and sharing
We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it with data brokers. There is no advertising in the app, so there is no ad network to receive anything.
This website
The site you are reading has no analytics, no cookies, and no trackers. It does not collect anything about you.
Changes
If this policy changes, this page changes and the date at the top is updated with it.
